Wednesday: Show off your style with Oversized Fit Day—the bigger, the better! Rock those oversized hoodies, tees, and cozy fits.

Thursday:
 End the week with Sweater Weather Day—wear your favorite sweater or even an ugly holiday one if you’re feeling festive!

Let’s make the last week of school the coziest one yet! We can’t wait to see everyone dressed up and embracing the Comfy Cozy vibes.

FASHION & COSMETOLOGY CLUB:  Fashion & Cosmetology Club will meet today after school in C108. We will be making fabric ornaments and supplies will be provided.

WEST SIDE:  Start your first official day of winter break by joining West Side and wear a holiday sweater to the boys' basketball game on Friday at 6:30 in Spec Gym. There will be games, prizes, and lots of fun!

CHILDREN'S BOOK DRIVE:  Maine West’s chapter of National English Honor Society is having a Holiday Children’s Book Drive to support local children. The book drive runs through Wednesday, December 18th. Please donate gently used books for children ages 3-10. Your English classes will have a box where you can bring your donated books. SPEECH TEAM:  The Speech Team competed in the Pirate's Booty Varsity Tournament at Palatine High School Saturday. Tristan Okurowski placed 5th in Prose and 4th in Radio. Sam Rubio placed 2nd in Original Comedy and Elisha Joseph placed 1st in Informative Speaking. Congratulations team on a job well done!

SPEECH TEAM: The Speech Team will be competing at the Pirate's Booty Varsity Tournament at Palatine High School tomorrow. Events include Prose, Poetry, Radio and Informative Speaking to name a few. Good luck team with your tournament tomorrow and we hope you have a lot of success and fun.

NEWS FROM THE CCRC:  Hey Juniors and Seniors are you looking for job opportunities? Ms. Nelson will be hosting a Job Search Support Workshop today during all lunch periods in the CCRC. Come get help with your search and learn about a variety of opportunities.

PRINCIPAL'S LEADERSHIP TEAM: Today, the Principal’s Leadership Team will be soliciting feedback from students on ways to improve your school experience. The PLT members will have orange cards with a QR code. Scan the QR code to complete a Google Form. Feedback Fridays will happen once a month.

Elisha Joseph placed 5th in Informative Speaking at the Elk Grove Varsity Tournament and at the John Hersey JV Tournament, Elisa Murillo placed 1st in Poetry, Sam Rubio placed 3rd in Original Comedy, and Jimena Ceja placed 5th in Informative Speaking.

JV will be heading to the UltiMUTT Dog Show tournament at John Hersey High School and the Varsity team will be competing at the Espresso Tournament in Elk Grove. FALL PLAY:  What happens when you combine Cinderella, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan with a Midsummer Night's Dream? Find out by experiencing this year's hilarious fall play, "Fairycakes" by Douglas Carter Beane. Join us for a hilarious re-imagining of Shakespeare's classic comedy and our favorite fairytales. Mayhem ensues when Sleeping Beauty mistakenly falls for Pinocchio, Prince Eric falls for Geppetto and Cinderella falls in love with herself. Performances run Thursday, October 17 through Saturday, October 19 at 7pm in the Maine West Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for students and $12 for adults. Tickets are available online and at the door.

NEW FROM THE SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTER:  The School Based Health Center and Gabriel's Light are collaborating to bring teen Mental Health First Aid Training to Maine West students. Gabriel's Light certifies students who can recognize and address peers' mental health concerns by linking them with supportive services through a trusted adult. There are only 30 slots available  In order to become certified you must register and attend all three training sessions. Sessions will be held after school, from 3:30pm -5pm on October 21st, 22nd, and 24th. Scan the flyer and register today! FALL PLAY:  What happens when you combine Cinderella, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan with a Midsummer Night's Dream? Find out by experiencing this year's hilarious fall play, "Fairycakes" by Douglas Carter Beane. Join us for a hilarious re-imagining of Shakespeare's classic comedy and our favorite fairytales. Mayhem ensues when Sleeping Beauty mistakenly falls for Pinocchio, Prince Eric falls for Geppetto and Cinderella falls in love with herself. Performances run Thursday, October 17 through Saturday, October 19 at 7pm in the Maine West Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for students and $12 for adults. Tickets are available online and at the door.

BOYS BASKETBALL:  For student athletes interested in trying out for boys basketball this season, there will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 29 at 3:30 in room G102.

GIRLS BASKETBALL:  Girls Basketball will have a preseason meeting on Tuesday, October 22 from 3:00-3:15pm in Room B217. Anyone interested in trying out or being a manager this season should attend. Please contact Coach Kuzmanic with any questions.

MU ALPHA THETA:  Scan the QR code on the posters around the school for information about Mu Alpha Theta. New members need to pay $10 in the bookstore. CO-ED CHEERLEADING:  Coed Cheerleading tryouts are Wednesday, October 30 in the Fieldhouse at 5pm. We are encouraging male athletes to be a part of this state qualifying program as we embark on the journey to return to the State Finals where we are currently ranked #17 in Illinois.

BOYS SWIM AND DIVE:  The Boys Swim and Dive team will have a pre season information meeting on Thursday October 24 at 3:10 pm in the pool. Our official start date is Monday, November 25.

NEWS FROM THE CCRC:  Are you eager to learn more about different careers and hear from industry professionals? Come to the Career and Leadership Summit presented by Nerdy Girl Success at Maine South High School. This awesome event will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 9am-12:30pm. NEW FROM THE SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTER:  The School Based Health Center and Gabriel's Light are collaborating to bring teen Mental Health First Aid Training to Maine West students in October. Gabriel's Light certifies students who can recognize and address peers' mental health concerns by linking them with supportive services through a trusted adult. There are only 30 slots available  In order to become certified you must register and attend all three training sessions. Sessions will be held after school, from 3:30pm -5pm on October 21st, 22nd, and 24th. Scan the flyer and register today!
