We celebrate World Languages this week.

Jorge Luis Borges said, “The dictionary is based on the hypothesis — obviously an unproven one — that languages are made up of equivalent synonyms.”


SPEECH TEAM:  The Speech Team competed in the UltiMUTT Dog Show at Hersey High School this Saturday. Students performed well in a highly competitive tournament. This Saturday they will be competing in their first varsity tournament, Pirate's Booty at Palatine High School. For more info on what the Speech Team is about, contact Ms. Alverio or come to their meeting after school today in Room C205.

POETRY CLUB:  Poetry Club meets in A218 today after school. For more info, contact Mr. Khemani.

IMPROV NIGHT:  Don't miss Maine West’s first Improv Night of the season. Come see the amazing, unscripted and hilarious talents of our very own Improv Warriors. The event will take place on Wednesday in R207 (the Choir Rm.) at 6 pm. Admission is $3 for students, $5 for adults and concessions are $2 each. All proceeds benefit the Drama Club

CURRENT EVENTS CLUB:  Current Events Club will meet on Thursday, December 14 at 3:00 in room C-220. Please join us to discuss education-related topics including book bans, teacher shortages, and curriculum restrictions. Background readings are posted on the Pi Sigma Pi Google Classroom page.

BAKE SALE: The National English Honor Society will be hosting a holiday bake sale on Friday during 5th period lunches. All cookies, brownies, cakes and other baked goods will be sold for $2.00.  CASH ONLY. All proceeds will go to a good cause.

THRIFT CLUB:  Maine West’s newest club, thrift club, will be having their first informational meeting on Tuesday.  Come to the Library after school Tuesday to learn more.

BOOK DRIVE:  The National English Honor Society is holding a holiday book drive for slightly used children’s books (ages 3-9) ending on Friday, December 15th. There are bins in the front rotunda, bus concourse and in the LRC.

NEWS FROM CCRC:  Seniors, are you still working on your plans for after high school? If so, come to the CCRC anytime on Wednesday. School counselors, Ms. Holmes and Ms. Nelson will be available all day to help you in the CCRC  Those who attend will be entered into a raffle for free swag.
