NATIONAL BANNED BOOK WEEK:  It is National Banned Book week. Libraries across the nation are celebrating our right to read! Libraries are one of the key public spaces that house the physical things that act as a conduit in communities - books literally bring people together. Every banned or challenged book you choose to read and learn from brings an important human voice back to life and gifts you, the reader, with new empathy and understanding of another perspective and another lived experience. Come to the LRC to learn about the most recent book challenges and why it is vital to celebrate everyone's story.

YEARBOOK PICK-UP:  Pick up for 2021-2022 yearbooks will be Wednesday after school in the Upper Commons near the Corner Café. Stop by if you pre-ordered a copy. We will also be offering pre-orders of the 2022-2023 yearbook to guarantee you get a copy. If you cannot make pickup, contact Mr. Swistak or Mr. Comerford to arrange pickup.

SPANISH NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY:  There will be a mandatory meeting for all current Spanish National Honor Society members in A207 today from 3:00-3:15 pm.

CHESS CLUB:  Chess club meets every Tuesday after school in the LRC. All students are welcome. Come for a casual game or for more serious competition--we are trying to form a team. See Mr. MacLowry in C208 with any questions.

MAINE WEST UNPLUGGED:  Do you play an acoustic stringed instrument? Do you want to find other people to play within a relaxed setting with like-minded musicians? If this is you, please come to the informational meeting of Maine West's newest club, Maine West Unplugged today at 3:00 pm in the LRC. All skill levels are encouraged to attend.  Please see Mr. Greenberg in the LRC for more details.

POETRY CLUB: Are you and your friends pros at prose?  In your free time, do you often rhyme?
Do you find yourself writing out what you feel?  If so, you should join Poetry Club! Poetry Club meets in C205 on Tuesdays after school. For more info, contact Mr. Khemani at hkhemani@maine207.org.

MOVIE CLUB: Movie Club will have its first meeting of the year Friday after school in B113. We will be watching the smash hit "Thor: Love and Thunder". Not every god has a plan.

VOTER REGISTRATION:  The next election is fast approaching. If you will be 18 by November 8 and are a US citizen, you can help pick our governor, our Senator, your Congressperson and other officials who impact every aspect of our lives. Register to vote.  Volunteers from the League of Women Voters of Park Ridge will help register students to vote in the LRC on Thursday and Friday from 8:30-3:00.  Students will have the option to register online or by completing a paper form with a League volunteer.

The requirements for each are a little different.

To register online, you will need:  your Illinois Driver’s License or State ID and the last four digits of your social security number.

To have a volunteer help you complete a paper form, you will need: two forms of ID, one that must have your current address, and, if one of the IDs is not an Illinois Driver’s License or an Illinois State ID, the last four digits of your social security number.

If you forget your IDs but still want to register, come down to the LRC anyway.  League members can give you the tools you need to register at home.

If you’re already registered, amplify your vote by getting your friends to register.
