NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY:  The Warrior Library is celebrating Banned Books Week by reminding you of your right to read freely. Today’s final featured book is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. This beloved story teaches children the importance of caring for the planet and standing up for what’s right. Through the beauty of the Truffula Trees and the dangers of environmental neglect, The Lorax reminds us that even one small seed—or one small child—can make a difference. The Lorax was banned in a California school in 1989 for allegedly portraying the logging industry in a negative light and potentially turning children against it. Additionally, the book has been criticized for its portrayal of consumerism, with the Once-ler representing a greed-driven society focused on consumption without considering the consequences.

NEWS FROM THE CCRC:  The Warrior Library is celebrating Banned Books Week by reminding you of your right to read freely. Today’s featured book is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. This beloved story begins with the words, 'Once there was a tree...and she loved a little boy.' Beautifully written and illustrated, this parable explores the themes of selfless giving and love. The Giving Tree was banned from a public library in Colorado in 1988 for being considered sexist, as some readers believe the boy continuously takes from the female tree without giving anything in return.
