The Maine West Canned Food Drive started Monday, October 22nd and runs through November 2nd. There will be a competition for the first period class that brings in the most non-perishable and canned food items. The winning class will receive a gourmet breakfast. All items will be taken to the Des Plaines Self Help Pantry. First period teachers should have received an email with instructions. If you have not, please contact Ms. Archer or Ms.Lloyd.

The canned food drive results are in: currently there is an 11 can average in Ms. Lloyd's class, an 8.9 can average in Ms. Jacob's class and third place is neck and neck - Mr. Hassman with a 1.78 can average & Mr. Gray with a 1.77 can average. THURSDAY is a DOUBLE POINTS DAY! May the best class win.
STUDENTS:  Day of Dead will be celebrated today after school in H106. We will be having food, music, a day of the dead altar, a presentation and sweets to celebrate this important day in Mexico and some Central American countries. We invite all to celebrate with us!

STUDENTS:  Come out and Help Pack the Bus Friday, November 2nd after school in front of the school. We will be packing a school bus with canned food to take to the Des Plaines Self Help Pantry.

RC CAR CLUB:  Do you own an RC Car, like a Traxxa, Kyosho, or Tamiya performance car? If so, join the newest club here at Maine West, the RC Car Club. Whether you drift 240s and R34s or scale rough terrain with Blazers and Explorers, this club is for you. Charge your batteries and glow plugs and meet the RC Car Club on the Tennis Courts Monday, November 5th after school.

HARRY POTTER CLUB: There is a Harry Potter Club meeting in the Library after school today. We will be finalizing our plans to see fantastic beasts two in a couple weeks. Make sure you come and get your spot!

STUDENT COUNCIL:  Student Council will meet Monday, November 5th during 5X and 5Z in
L101.  All are welcome!

FASHION & COSMETOLOGY CLUB:  Fashion & Cosmetology Club is sponsoring the Dress for Success raffle fundraiser from November 5-9. Raffle tickets are $1 each and you can enter for a chance to win an assortment of prizes. Tickets will be sold in the café during lunch periods and the drawing will be after school on Friday, November 9. All proceeds will benefit the Dress for Success organization to help empower women to achieve economic independence. We are also hosting a donation drive to collect career apparel for women, including accessories, handbags, shoes and jewelry. Donations will be accepted in the bin at the front entrance from November 5 - 9.

STUDENTS: There are plenty of high paying jobs you can get in two years or less. Come to the Maine West Options fair TODAY around the cafeteria during lunch periods. Programs will be representing 2-year degrees, certificates, training programs, trade schools and more. You don't want to miss out on these opportunities for your future!

COLLEGE VISITS:  Loyola University Chicago and Northeastern Illinois University will be visiting Maine West this Friday during 2nd and 5th periods respectively. Please stop by the CCRC to get a College Visit pass from Mr. Dailey.

BOYS BASKETBALL:  Attention all boys interested in trying out for the basketball team this year. Tryouts will begin on Monday, November 5th at 3:35 pm. Please search online for the boys basketball program´s website, instagram, twitter, and facebook feeds for all tryout details. In order to tryout, online registration and an updated physical must be turned into the athletic office by Friday, November 2nd. Continue the championship tradition at Maine West by competing for the boys basketball program this winter.

The Maine South Astronomy Club will be hosting a community outreach event on the evening of Saturday November 10 starting at 5:30 pm.  In conjunction with Maine South's School Wide Fundraiser, in support of the Dup15q Alliance, admission will be $3 per individual and $5 for families of 3 or more people. There will be a chance to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes, with all proceeds split between the School Wide Fundraiser and the Astronomy Club.

The evening will begin with a series of five minute lectures in the school library given by Maine South students on a variety of astronomy related topics. After about 30 minutes, we will walk out to the school's north field, and we will help people make observations with the school's telescopes. This is designed for people who are astronomy curious from ages 8 through 80. We plan to end the evening by 7:00 pm.

We are asking that people register by e-mailing Tom Egan at tegan@maine207.org so we can contact interested persons in the event of inclement weather and cancellation.

We will be having food, music, a day of the dead altar, a presentation and sweets to celebrate this important day in Mexico and some Central American countries. We invite all to celebrate with us!

Our Football team has made history again. The Warriors earned their first eight win season since the school first opened in 1959.  The 8-1 overall record qualified is for a playoff game and earned us home field in the first round. Our Warriors will host Benet on Friday, October 26th at 7 pm. All tickets are $5.00 and no activity passes, booster passes or any other pass can be honored for this IHSA post season event. Presale tickets are available in the bookstore now until Friday afternoon.  Come see your Warriors play here at West in the IHSA Playoffs Friday!

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY:  Come out to our first meeting of the year and see what Art Honor Society is all about.  We are meeting Tuesday, October 23 during 5Z and Wednesday, October 24 during 6Z in E107.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Any girl interested in playing basketball this season is invited to open gym on October 24th at 4:00 pm in C-Wing Gym.  Tryouts begin on October 29.

GYMNASTICS:  Looking to try out for gymnastics? Come to open gym in A-wing gym. Please check the website for open gyms dates. Try-outs are November 5 after school. Come out to a night of billions of stars! (or at least a few dozen, and maybe a planet or two)
The Maine South Astronomy Club will be hosting a community outreach event on the evening of Saturday November 10 starting at 5:30 pm.  In conjunction with Maine South's School Wide Fundraiser, in support of the Dup15q Alliance, admission will be $3 per individual and $5 for families of 3 or more people. There will be a chance to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes, with all proceeds split between the School Wide Fundraiser and the Astronomy Club.

The evening will begin with a series of five minute lectures in the school library given by Maine South students on a variety of astronomy related topics. After about 30 minutes, we will walk out to the school's north field, and we will help people make observations with the school's telescopes. This is designed for people who are astronomy curious from ages 8 through 80. We plan to end the evening by 7:00 pm.

We are asking that people register by e-mailing Tom Egan at tegan@maine207.org so we can contact interested persons in the event of inclement weather and cancellation.

The Maine West Canned Food Drive starts Monday, October 22nd and goes through November 2nd. There will be a competition for the first period class that brings in the most non-perishable and canned food items. The winning class will receive a gourmet breakfast. All items will be taken to the Des Plaines Self Help Pantry. First period teachers should have received an email with instructions. If you have not, please contact Ms. Archer or Ms.Lloyd.

CONGRATULATIONS: This past weekend, senior Maja Kozerski won the Glenbrook South Tennis Sectional and qualified for the state tournament. She defeated Maine East in the opening round and then beat the #5 seed from GBS, the #2 seed from Maine South, and then the overall #1 seed from GBS. Congratulations Maja, and good luck at STATE!
