The Maine West Canned Food Drive started Monday, October 22nd and runs through November 2nd. There will be a competition for the first period class that brings in the most non-perishable and canned food items. The winning class will receive a gourmet breakfast. All items will be taken to the Des Plaines Self Help Pantry. First period teachers should have received an email with instructions. If you have not, please contact Ms. Archer or Ms.Lloyd.

STUDENTS: Day of Dead will be celebrated today after school in H106. We will be having food, music, a day of the dead altar, a presentation and sweets to celebrate this important day in Mexico and some Central American countries. We invite all to celebrate with us!

Whether you drift 240s and R34s or scale rough terrain with Blazers and Explorers, this club is for you. Charge your batteries and glow plugs and meet the RC Car Club on the Tennis Courts Monday, November 5th after school.

FASHION & COSMETOLOGY CLUB: Fashion & Cosmetology Club is sponsoring the Dress for Success raffle fundraiser from November 5-9. Raffle tickets are $1 each and you can enter for a chance to win an assortment of prizes. Tickets will be sold in the café during lunch periods and the drawing will be after school on Friday, November 9. All proceeds will benefit the Dress for Success organization to help empower women to achieve economic independence. We are also hosting a donation drive to collect career apparel for women, including accessories, handbags, shoes and jewelry. Donations will be accepted in the bin at the front entrance from November 5 - 9.
STUDENTS: There are plenty of high paying jobs you can get in two years or less. Come to the Maine West Options fair TODAY around the cafeteria during lunch periods. Programs will be representing 2-year degrees, certificates, training programs, trade schools and more. You don't want to miss out on these opportunities for your future!

BOYS BASKETBALL: Attention all boys interested in trying out for the basketball team this year. Tryouts will begin on Monday, November 5th at 3:35 pm. Please search online for the boys basketball program´s website, instagram, twitter, and facebook feeds for all tryout details. In order to tryout, online registration and an updated physical must be turned into the athletic office by Friday, November 2nd. Continue the championship tradition at Maine West by competing for the boys basketball program this winter.

The Maine South Astronomy Club will be hosting a community outreach event on the evening of Saturday November 10 starting at 5:30 pm. In conjunction with Maine South's School Wide Fundraiser, in support of the Dup15q Alliance, admission will be $3 per individual and $5 for families of 3 or more people. There will be a chance to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes, with all proceeds split between the School Wide Fundraiser and the Astronomy Club.
The evening will begin with a series of five minute lectures in the school library given by Maine South students on a variety of astronomy related topics. After about 30 minutes, we will walk out to the school's north field, and we will help people make observations with the school's telescopes. This is designed for people who are astronomy curious from ages 8 through 80. We plan to end the evening by 7:00 pm.
