STUDENTS:  Want to learn more about a career in the trades? Come to the CCRC during lunch tomorrow for Ms. Nelson's informative Trades Exploration Workshop. She will highlight a variety of trade related careers and how you can learn more about them. Also, she will go over the different trade educational options for after high school.

MOCK TRIAL:  All old and new mock trial members will meet briefly after school today in C210 to discuss our upcoming season. Please contact Mr. Rosenberg for questions.

SPEECH TEAM:  Speech Team will have drop in sessions after school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to work together in C210. See Mr. Rosenberg or Ms. Alverio for questions.

GIRLS BASKETBALL:  Girls' Basketball will have open gym today after school from 3:40-4:40 pm in Spec Gym.

NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY:  Any sophomore, junior or senior interested in applying for National English Honor Society should attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 5 at 8:00 am or 3:00 pm in C207. More information will be provided at that time.

BLOOD DRIVE:  If you registered for the blood drive today, please remember to go during your scheduled time. There are also openings for staff and students to walk in during their free periods and lunch.

STUDENTS:  Please remember that no backpacks are allowed in the stadium for football games. This is a security issue and is for your own protection.  There is $2 charge for students with their Maine West ID. However, if you go to the bookstore and purchase an activity pass you can get into ALL the football and basketball games free. For faster entrance into the games, please try to have correct change.  Thank you.

NATIONAL BANNED BOOK WEEK:  It's National Banned book week, a time when we celebrate our right to read. Today we are highlighting the #2 most challenged book in America in 2021, "Lawn Boy," by Jonathan Evison - An aimless young man decides to get his life together, but life has other plans - sick family members, unpaid bills, bad jobs, awkward situations, and thwarted plans, we root for Mike while also wishing we didn’t have to root so hard. Check it out in the LRC today!

COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB:  The Computer Science Club will have its first informational meeting after school today in room B211. Anyone interested in computer programming is welcome to join us as we plan our activities for the year.

MOVIE CLUB: Movie Club will have its first meeting of the year today after school in B113. We will be watching the smash hit "Thor: Love and Thunder". Not every god has a plan.

VOTER REGISTRATION:  The next election is fast approaching. If you will be 18 by November 8 and are a US citizen, you can help pick our governor, our Senator, your Congressperson and other officials who impact every aspect of our lives. Register to vote.  Volunteers from the League of Women Voters of Park Ridge will help register students to vote in the LRC today from 8:30-3:00.  Students will have the option to register online or by completing a paper form with a League volunteer. 

The requirements for each are a little different.

To register online, you will need:  your Illinois Driver’s License or State ID and the last four digits of your social security number.

To have a volunteer help you complete a paper form, you will need: two forms of ID, one that must have your current address, and, if one of the IDs is not an Illinois Driver’s License or an Illinois State ID, the last four digits of your social security number.

If you forget your IDs but still want to register, come down to the LRC anyway.  League members can give you the tools you need to register at home.

YEARBOOK PICK-UP:  Pick up for 2021-2022 yearbooks is today after school in the Upper Commons near the Corner CafĂ©. Stop by if you pre-ordered a copy. We will also be offering pre-orders of the 2022-2023 yearbook to guarantee you get a copy. If you cannot make pickup, contact Mr. Swistak or Mr. Comerford to arrange pickup.

SOFTBALL:  Any individual interested in playing softball in the spring, we will be having an intramural day today from 3:45pm-5:00 on the varsity softball field weather permitting. Bring a glove and bat and you can work on any of your skills. Questions, see or send a message to Mr. Addante or Mr. Dvorak.

FASHION AND COSMETOLOGY CLUB:  Are you looking for ways to be a little extra for Friday's Homecoming Assembly? If so, join us at Fashion & Cosmetology club today after school in C108. We will be practicing face painting ideas that we will use for Friday's Spirit Day.

DRAMA CLUB:  Drama Club will hold their first meeting after school in A206 (the Drama Rm.) Come get some candy, play some games, meet new people and learn about opportunities like our Improv Team and Theatre Fest. Bring a friend and see you immediately after school today.

All career paths will be represented and there will be something for everyone. The event is from 6:30-8:30 PM and is open to all, but it is strongly encouraged for Junior and Senior students.
