The Maine West Poetry Festival took place in the Lower Commons on Thursday, February 3rd. Thirty-three students came to the mic and recited Poetry Out Loud poems and some shared their own original poems as well. The judges were blown away by everyone, but one winner was chosen for each group: Abby Wilson for the Poetry Out Loud category and Gabby Szewczyk for her original poem, Pink's Envy. Congratulations to all and thank you for sharing your beautiful poems!
On Friday, February 4th, Maine West DECA members competed in the regional competition in Rosemont along with students from 22 other schools in our area. Congratulations to Mia Thomas and Yasmine Saini, the 2nd and 3rd place overall winners in their event. Also, Farwah Husain took home a 1st place medal for her role play, and the team of Neo Trovela-Villamiel and Monisa Yusra won 2nd place for their role play. Congratulations to these top finishers and all of the participants!
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST MUSICAL PERFORMANCE: A tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast. Get your tickets for this year's musical- Beauty and the Beast. The show runs from February 24 through February 27. Student tickets are $7 and $10 for Adults. Go to

STUDENTS: This month, the Warrior Library wants you to fall in love with a GREAT book! The LRC presents "Blind Date With a Book!" Feb.7-28. Come to the LRC and pick one of our wrapped books that have a brief summary of the story. Check out a book that sounds interesting. We will give you a "rate your date" bookmark. After you check out the book, unwrap it to meet your date. Give your book a chance and hopefully it'll be a match made in heaven! Fill out the "rate your date" bookmark and return the bookmark and the book to the library, and you will be entered into the raffle to win cool prizes. Drop by the LRC today to fall in love with your next book.

BOYS TENNIS: Any boy interested in playing tennis this spring should plan on attending a brief pre-season meeting on Tuesday at 8:15am in room B-215. Please see Coach Hauenstein if you are unable to make it.
PI SIGMA PI: Pi Sigma Pi Members, flex your trivia muscles and join the Pi Sigma Pi - Scholastic Bowl Fest on Thursday from 3:15-4:15 in A108. There will be pizza! Attendance is limited, so be sure to fill out the google form and sign up ahead of time if you want to play.
VALENTUNES: Valentines Day is just around the corner and that means it's time for VALENTUNES! Visit our table in the Commons during lunches to learn more about Valentunes, or personalized singing telegrams. They make a great gift for a friend. Valentunes are only $2 in the bookstore.
JUNIOR PLANNING NIGHT: Junior Planning Night will be held on Wednesday, February 9th from
7 - 8:30 pm. This event is for juniors and junior parents to learn more about options for students after high school. There will be a presentation along with a Q & A session with a panel including representatives from colleges as well as our very own Ms. Hansen.
