STUDENTS:  For 60 years, the Westerner student newspaper has been the voice of students at Maine West. Now you can be a part of it. Covering everything from student trends, to Maine West life, to national and global issues, the award-winning Westerner keeps students informed about their world. No matter whether it's basketball regionals or DECA competitions, the upcoming musical or the Orchesis show, the Cubs or the Bulls, political issues or climate change, your quirkiest stories or most shocking experiences, the Westerner covers it. If you'd like help shape the way students see the world and be a part of next year's Westerner digital or print staff, applications are due February 23 for writers, photographers, artists and editors. STUDENTS/STAFF:  Please support Patrick Lives On and the National English Honor Society by purchasing baked goods on Thursday, February 14th before school and during lunch periods in front of the student cafeteria.

SENIORS:  We will hold an advisory today and Wednesday. We will be discussing financial aid, award letters and next steps in the college process. Please plan to be in the auditorium at the start of your designated lunch. We will meet during the first 25 minutes of each lunch period.

STUDENTS:  Valentines Day gotcha feeling sad and lonely? Come on down to our table just outside the cafe during lunch periods to buy a Valentune, or singing telegram. Valentunes are only $2 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the school-wide fundraiser.

STUDENTS:  If you would like to volunteer for the Special Ed Basketball Tournament on Saturday, February 16, volunteer sheets are in C107. We need help with team buddies concessions, referees and scorekeepers. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Pettyjohn.

STUDENTS:  Do you love to dance?  Do you love to perform?  Come to the Intramural dance workshop on Friday, February 22nd. You will learn a hip hop dance to perform in the Orchesis Show this year.  We will meet in the dance studio (G-112) after school on Friday the 22nd.

AP STUDENTS:  Reminder that the deadline to pay for your AP tests in the bookstore is March 8th. If you misplaced your letter with the AP tests you are scheduled to take, the bookstore has copies. We encourage all of our AP students to take the AP test for the class (es) they are enrolled.

ACCOUNTING CLUB:  Do you have a job? If so, did you know that you may entitled to an income tax refund? Let Accounting Club help you file your free tax return and get your hard earned money back! Sign up for an appointment with a certified tax assistant through the form on our Accounting Club website under the Activities tab.

PING PONG:  There are Ping Pong Intramurals on Wednesday in H106 from 3:30 till 5:30 pm. Come and go as you please. Bring a friend or someone to hit with or play against. No experience needed.

GIRLS WATER POLO:  Attention girls interested in joining girls water polo. There will be an organizational meeting on Wednesday after school in room D-112. You can email any questions to Coach Schneider. All skill levels are welcome.

ALL ATHLETES:  Registration for Spring Sports is now open. Most sports begin on Monday, February 25th. EVERYONE must have a current physical on file with the Athletic Office and be registered in "8 to 18" before being allowed to tryout for a sport.  After completing the 8 to 18 registration, you will receive an email telling you when and where to meet for your sports' tryouts.
