AP STUDENTS:  March 3rd is the deadline to pay for your AP tests in the bookstore. All AP students are expected to take the AP test for the class or classes they are currently taking. In addition, this year you have more reasons than ever to take the AP exams.

Your first AP test is only $15.
You will be exempt from the your AP class' final exam by taking the AP test.
Illinois schools will take scores of 3 and higher for credit.

CONGRATULATIONS:  This past week, our Mock Trial Team competed in two tournaments at Rolling Meadows and Waukegan. Congratulations to Catherine Buchaniec and Thomas Scheck for winning the Outstanding Attorney Award, and to Matthew Montinile for winning the Outstanding Witness Award. Also, congratulations to the Mock Trial Team for qualifying for the State Tournament in Champaign for the second straight year. Next week, West will be hosting fourteen teams in our first annual Mock Trial Invitational.

Maine West is pleased to announce that we have THREE National Merit Scholarship Finalists- Anna Remus, Eli Haworth, and Ben Heim. Being a finalist now qualifies them for many merit scholarships for college.

Teams can be co-ed or non co-ed as well a mix of players from any class. You must form a team of 6 and the cost is $30 per team. All proceeds will benefit our school wide fundraiser St. Baldricks.  If you are interested, please get the sign up form in the main office or bookstore. The deadline to sign up is today.


JUNIORS:  Do you like hands-on, self-directed, practical learning experiences? If so, consider taking clinical government this summer! We hold class at City Hall in downtown Des Plaines. Come to C220 to pick up an application or talk to Mr. Fouts in C212. Deadline is TODAY!

Good luck to the boys swimming and diving team as they compete in the CSL Championships this weekend. The JV Divers will compete at Maine East today at 3 followed by the JV swimmers at 6. Tomorrow the Varsity divers will compete at 8 followed by the swimmers at noon.

The Maine West Boys Varsity Track Team opened their season on Friday with a solid performance, finishing 2nd in a quad meet at Rolling Meadows. Top performers for the Warriors were Junior Quinn Clerkin who won the high jump, Senior Kevin Leon who dominated the 800 meter run and Junior Walter Hutt who finished 2nd in the shot put by ½ inch.

Congratulations to senior Mary Conneely on qualifying for the IHSA STATE Girls Bowling Championship. Mary bowled a 198 average over 6 games this past Saturday, including a high game of 244. Mary will represent Maine West this weekend in Rockford. Good Luck Mary!

STUDENTS:  Maine West's 2nd annual Dodge Ball Tournament will take place February 22nd at 6:00 pm in Spec Gym. There will be no divisions this year. Teams can be co-ed or non co-ed as well a mix of players from any class. You must form a team of 6 and the cost is $30 per team. All proceeds will benefit our school wide fundraiser St. Baldricks.  If you are interested, please get the sign up form in the main office or bookstore. Congrats to all the wrestlers who competed in the regional tournament Saturday and to our 3 sectional qualifiers, Arsalan Afshar, Jayton Hall and Jake Bellizzi.  These warriors will compete Friday at the sectional in search for a trip down state.
