STUDENTS:  Join the students participating in Global Concerns Classrooms Wednesday from 7:45-8:30 in the LRC by making a hand to lend a hand. We will be making paper cut of hands and decorating them.  For every hand you make and send in, a charity will donate $1.90. This money will help kids go to school Nicaragua and Indonesia.

STUDENTS:  Please join us Wednesday morning at 8am, May 3, in the LRC for a performance by Jo and Leslie. This will be be their 3rd performance in the LRC this year. These ladies perform songs both new and old, familiar and unfamiliar, but all the while deliver their songs with soaring harmonies, delicate guitar accompaniment, and passion.

STUDENTS:  Let's try and have the largest Warriorettes dance team Maine West has seen in years. Tryouts for the 2017-2018 warriorettes dance team will be next week on May 9, 10 and 11. Wear comfortable clothes and come check out the dance clinic on the 9th and 10th before the audition on the 11th. No prior dance experience is necessary. We are looking for a both a large varsity and JV squad this year. If you have any questions, please see Coach Marchionna.

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENTS

The varsity badminton team won the Wheeling Blue and Gold Invite on Saturday. A balanced effort across the board paved the way to victory.  Megan Kalinowski and Brooke Gorski took the championship at 1st doubles.  Winning second place in doubles were Dianne Mabansag and Miranda Gonzalez, Geeva Chirayath and Sandra George, and Juhi Patel and Elisabeth McCrea.
Irene Gudino took second in 4th singles and  winning in consolation singles were Shaira Pascua and Joyce Manianglung.

Congratulations to the Girls Water Polo team who defeated Highland Park 8 to 1, bringing their conference record to 5 and 0, which means that they are CSL North Conference Champions! They are 19 and 3 and 1 overall.

Congratulations to the Boys water polo team. With their 7-4 win over Highland Park they improved to 5 and 0 in conference and wrapped up the CSL North division championship.

Congratulations to the JV badminton team for defeating Elk Grove 15-0 yesterday.

Congratulations to the JV boys volleyball team on their exciting three set win over Maine East and congratulations to the freshmen boys volleyball team for their big win over GBN.

If you enjoy irony, innuendo and want to witness the most epic fight sequence ever to grace the Maine West stage then come experience "Disassembly"! Performances run Thursday, April 20 at 4pm and Friday, April 21and Saturday, April 22 at 7pm. Tickets are only $5 for students and may be purchased in the Bookstore or at the door. Seating is limited so get your tickets today.

STUDENTS: Have you completed one year of algebra or geometry with a 3.0+ GPA? If so, then you are eligible to join the National Math Honor Society: Mu Alpha Theta. Mu Alpha Theta hosts free math competitions, offers grants and scholarships and looks great on college applications. Attention, Juniors! Before you know it, you’ll be filling out college applications! Do you know what a personal statement is? Have you ever seen sample topics of college admissions essays? What are some tips to help you get started?

Come to a college essay presentation! Get the information you need. An expert in the college admissions field will speak about writing the college essay.

Sessions will be held on Monday in L101 during 2nd and 3rd periods. If you have a class during those periods, get a “College Visitor Pass” from the CRC and have your teacher sign the pass ahead of time. This gives you permission to miss class and attend the program.

Many schools - including several of our own state universities - require essays as part of their applications. This will help you prepare. You can start on your essays this summer. Hope to see you on Monday in L101.
