STUDENTS: If you are looking for a summer job and like to work with children, apply for the summer tutoring program through District 207. Our high school students work as classroom aides in the elementary school districts during summer school. The online application is open through March 20th. Stop in the CRC or snap the QR code from one of our flyers around the building.
SENIORS: All seniors graduating in May 2017 must come to the counselor's office to verify their name as it should appear on their diploma. It should be the name on your birth certificate. A roster will be available on a clipboard in the counselor's office. Please initial next to your name.
WESTERNER: For almost 60 years, the Westerner student newspaper has been the voice of students at Maine West in print and in social media. Covering everything from Maine West events to student talents to national and global issues. The award-winning Westerner keeps students informed about their world, no matter if it is the Orchesis show or the spring play, the basketball team or the math team, presidential executive actions or climate change, the dominance of Netflix or the excitement of the NCAA tournament. The Westerner covers it all. If you'd like to be a school leader as part of next year's Westerner staff, applications are due March 17 for writers, photographers, artists and editors.

JUNIORS: After school today there will be a short SAT reading practice session in the COACH area of the LRC. Get a quick refresher and a free treat (if you're one of the first 20 students).
INDO-PAK: Join Indo-Pak club in celebrating Holi tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in H106. Wear your white and be prepared to have fun and get soaked in color as we recognize Holi, the festival of colors, Holi is a Hindu spring festival traditionally celebrated in India and Nepal. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring and the end of winter. We will be throwing the color outside so be prepared for the weather. Afterwards, we will warm up inside by enjoying music and snacks.
COLLEGE AND CAREER ANNOUNCEMENTS

It’s also Financial Aid Thursday in the CRC. Come in to ask questions about paying for college, scholarships, and financial aid packages. Seniors are encouraged to bring in award letters to get a clear understanding of what the breakdown of the costs. The specialist will be here from 8:30 AM – 2:45 PM.
Next, the Maine West Scholarship Fund application is due today in the CRC. Be sure to submit the application and the letters of recommendation.
The Deadline for the Maine West Scholars Rivers Casino Scholarship for Oakton Community College has been extended. These will be due by April 7. However, if you have a completed application, be sure to get that in by the end of the day today for priority consideration.
Remember that Spring Break is a great time to visit colleges. Whether you are traveling or staying in town, there are always colleges in the area! Try to get to a college campus so you can get first-hand knowledge of what a college looks and feels like….and if it is a good fit for you.
