Happy National Tutoring Week! Celebrate in COACH this week with some free food and free tutoring. COACH is open daily before and after school in the LRC. Quarter 1 is over, but we're only half-way through the semester. Now is the time to go to COACH and get help the help you need in any subject. Be a champion. Go to COACH.

STUDENTS:  Today is Fall testing day. Freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9 and Sophomores and Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT. No school for seniors. Students, please report to your advisories by 8:40 am. Remember to bring...

STUDENTS:  Get your exclusive Maine West Warrior Foam Finger. Student Council is selling a limited number of foam fingers. They are available in the bookstore for only $3. Get yours now before they're gone.

STUDENTS:  Competitive dance season is here. Tryouts for the warriorettes dance team will be on Tuesday, October 25 and Thursday, October 27 at 3:30 in the dance room. Be sure to register online and turn in your physical to Mrs. O'Connell in the athletic office. Your physical must by turned into the athletic office to be eligible for tryouts. STUDENTS:  Interested in making a little extra cash? Thinking about the cost of books for college, or gas money for the next few months? The Des Plaines VFW post is once again sponsoring the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest. First place from Maine West wins $300.  Cash awards for second and third place. The winning essay is also entered into the national contest with a chance to win $30,000. For more information, ask your Social Science teacher or Mr. Barney in C211.

JUNIORS:  If you are close to or have a weighted, cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher at the end of this fall semester, you are eligible to apply for NHS in January 2017. Please come to an informational meeting at one of two times: Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 am in L101 or Tuesday, October 25 at 3:20 pm in L101.   Please check your email for this information as well.

MAINE WEST YOUTH GROUP:  The Maine West Youth Group meets every Friday. A great way to start your day with prayer, worship and a donut. Come to the Maine West Youth Group at 7:00 am on Friday in R207.

SPANISH NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY:  There will be a meeting in A207 on Thursday after school and Friday before school to discuss two upcoming activities. Please attend one of the two meetings.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN CLUB:  We are meeting Thursday at 3:30 pm in the family center. We are planning events and candy sales for fundraising.

COLLEGE AND CAREER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Are you having trouble with your college applications? Don’t know how to get started? Need help with your transcripts? Are you stuck with one part and need help getting over the hump? Have a Common Application question?

The CRC will host a College Application Workshop on Thursday. Counselors will be available throughout the school day to help you with your applications. Come to the CRC on Thursday during your free and lunch periods. Get a treat along with the satisfaction of making progress on your applications.

Remember that some schools have a November 1 priority or early action deadline. Be sure to submit all materials including your application, payment, transcript and recommendations by November 1.

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENTS

BOYS BASKETBALL: Registration for boys' basketball is now open. You can access the online registration by visiting the boys' basketball website or by visiting the Maine West Athletics website. All registration forms are due by Monday, October 31st. If you have not completed the registration process, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO TRYOUT. GIRLS:  Any girl currently not in a fall sport, open gym will be held today from 6-8 pm in C-wing gym.
