Happy National Tutoring Week! Celebrate in COACH this week with some free food and free tutoring. COACH is open daily before and after school in the LRC. Quarter 1 is over, but we're only half-way through the semester. Now is the time to go to COACH and get help the help you need in any subject. Be a champion. Go to COACH.

STUDENTS:  Wednesday October 19th is Fall testing day. Freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9 and Sophomores and Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT. No school for seniors. Students, please report to your advisories by 8:40 am. If you do not know your advisory, this is the time to look at your ID or schedule and know exactly where you need to go on Wednesday. Remember...

two number 2 pencils,
and a scientific or graphing calculator.

STUDENTS:  Get your exclusive Maine West Warrior Foam Finger. Student Council is selling a limited number of foam fingers. They are available in the bookstore for only $3. Get yours now before they're gone.

STUDENTS AND STAFF:  Grand Opening for this year's POPSHOP is today and Thursday the 20th.  Please bring your $1.00 for a Fresh Box of Pop Corn and/or a Giant FREEZE POP. Please help us raise money to donate to the School Wide Fundraiser.   Thank You for all your Support of the PopShop.

STUDENTS: The Maine West LP Appreciation Society will have it's first meeting today from 3:30-4:30 pm in the LRC. For more details contact Mr. Greenberg in the LRC.

JUNIORS:  If you are close to or have a weighted, cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher at the end of this fall semester, you are eligible to apply for NHS in January 2017. Please come to an informational meeting at one of two times: Wednesday, October 19 at 3:20 in L101 or Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 am in L101.   Please check your email for this information as well.

YOGA CLUB:  Yoga Club will meet today after school at 3:30 pm in room C200A. We will practice yoga in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Learn how to control your emotions and meet new friends. We will stretch our bodies and our minds while we change the things we can. Contact Katie Petersen to let her know if you are interested.

MAINE WEST YOUTH GROUP:  The Maine West Youth Group meets every Friday. A great way to start your day with prayer, worship, and a donut. Come to the Maine West Youth Group at 7:00 am on Friday in R207.

SPANISH NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY:  There will be a meeting in A207 on Thursday after school and Friday before school to discuss two upcoming activities. Please attend one of the two meetings.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN CLUB:  We are meeting Thursday at 3:30 pm in the family center. We are planning events and candy sales for fundraising.

Are you having trouble with your college applications? Don’t know how to get started? Need help with your transcripts? Are you stuck with one part and need help getting over the hump? Have a Common Application question?

The CRC will host a College Application Workshop on Thursday. Counselors will be available throughout the school day to help you with your applications. Come to the CRC on Thursday during your free and lunch periods. Get a treat along with the satisfaction of making progress on your applications.
Remember that some schools have a November 1 priority or early action deadline. Be sure to submit all materials including your application, payment, transcript and recommendations by November 1.

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENTS

CONGRATULATIONS:  The Maine West Boys Freshmen Cross Country Team stepped up on Saturday and finished 1st in their Conference Meet at Glenbrook North. Ray Ure was the individual winner in the race.  Other scoring runners for the team were Jonathan Kang, Fabian Pena, Michael Lindenmuth, Johnny Picchiotti and Ian Huff.

VARSITY SOCCER GAME:  The varsity soccer team begins regional play tonight at home vs Glenbrook South.  The game begins at 6:30 pm. The cost for entry is $4.  We need as many fans as possible to cheer on the soccer team.  Please come out and support these fine players.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Registration for boys' basketball is now open. You can access the online registration by visiting the boys' basketball website or by visiting the Maine West Athletics website. All registration forms are due by Monday, October 31st. If you have not completed the registration process, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO TRYOUT.
