This year's V-Show, "Breaking the News" opens Thursday in the MW Auditorium. Come check out our AMAZING talent; we've got magic tricks, acrobatics, dancing and more. Performances run Thursday, November 3 at 4 pm and Friday and Saturday at 7 pm. Tickets are $7 or $5 with a can food donation to a local food pantry. Don't miss the most anticipated event of the year.

STUDENTS: It is time for the Mr. Maine West competition to begin.  Nominations for your favorite Maine West guy have begun.  Does he have school spirit?  Does he have great character and integrity?  Does he represent Maine West well? Then HE should be the next Mr. Maine West. Nominate any Maine West guy today during your lunch period for the Mr. Maine West competition. Only one nomination is needed to be in the running.

STUDENTS:  Student Council's Annual Canned Food Drive starts Next week October 31st until November 9th. First period teachers please check your emails as the process has changed. Students, please bring your cans for the Des Plaines Food Pantry. The 1st period class with the most points wins a gourmet breakfast.

Attention goblins, ghouls, ghosts, zombies, princesses and all Halloween celebrants! The LRC is having a COSTUME CONTEST. Come to the LRC ANYTIME on Monday, October 31 and get your picture taken for our Instagram account (@mwlibrary), then get your friends to "like" your photo. Whoever gets the most likes WINS a $25 Amazon gift card.

STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS:  Please pick up your Student Council t-shirt in the bookstore on Monday and wear them to our meeting on Tuesday. We will be taking our yearbook picture. If you did not order a t-shirt, please wear white for the picture. Our meeting will be Tuesday, November 1st at 7:10 in A201. Please be prompt because we are taking our picture at the beginning of the meeting.

SENIORS: Herff Jones will be here to take orders for graduation announcements and senior products including class rings today lunch periods outside the cafeteria. If you have not completed the cap and gown measurements form, you can complete the measurement form today. NO PAYMENT IS REQUIRED.

JAZZ BAND:  Auditions for the Maine West Jazz Band are on Tuesday, November 8th.  Come to the band room to pick up an audition packet and sign up for a time.  Looking for saxes, trumpets, trombones, guitar, base, piano and drums. Head to mwbands.com for more information.

MOVIE CLUB:  We will be meeting today after school in L101.  Movie club will celebrate the Halloween season with the original "Ghostbusters" from 1984. They ain't afraid of no ghost.

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENTS

GIRLS BASKETBALL:  Any girl interested in trying out for girls basketball - Tryouts are on Monday October 31st. Please fill out the form on 8 to 18, have your physical completed and come dressed in shorts and basketball shoes for tryout.

GYMNASTICS:  Interested in gymnastics? Last week of open gym is November 1-4 in A-wing gym. Tryouts are November 7.  Please register on 8 to18 and have an up-to-date physical to be eligible to try-out.  Please contact Coach Harrison if you are still in a fall sport and unable to attend. Gymnastics start November 7 at 4:00 pm in A-wing gym.

WRESTLING:  Wrestling starts on November 7th. There will be a pre-season wrestling meeting on Monday, October 31st right after school in the Little Theatre (L101).
