TODAY IS CONSTITUTION DAY:
On this date in 1787, thirty-nine brave and insightful men met in Philadelphia and signed the United States Constitution after months of debate and negotiation. They changed the course of history, for they set into motion a government that saved a young and fragile nation from chaos and put it on a path to global power and leadership. With its separation of powers, its system of checks and balances, and the value it places on the rule of law, the Constitution creates a government that is truly of, by and for the people. It provides the framework for a powerful government that can accomplish great things AND protect individual rights. As such, our Constitution is the standard of democratic government and a model for freedom loving people throughout the world to follow. To commemorate this historic achievement, all social science students will be reciting the Preamble at the beginning of class.
